Last night I traveled to Austin to see Denton's own Backside Pick at Momo's on 6th Street. I was interested to see how a popular Denton band would do in Austin, and I wasn't disappointed. Usually accompanied by an exceptional horn section and backup singers, Backside Pick was playing light last night with just four members: lead singer/guitarist Rocky Ottley, keyboardist Nick Groesch, bassist Cooper Appelt, and drummer Mike Hodges.

Backside's biggest strength is weaving each individual player's flairs into the greater fabric of the group's ensemble. Not only do they put out enough raw power to sound like a group of seven or eight, but they each play their lines with such conviction and gusto that each member is exciting to watch. Backside was one of the first bands I saw when I moved to Denton four years ago, and I've enjoyed watching their evolution as a band.I've especially enjoyed watching Rocky, who's developed an increasingly charismatic stage presence. His voice is stronger every time I hear it, adding little bits of a playful twang as he reaches the melody.

For the entire review please check out the MyDentonMusic's website.

Thanks everyone who came out to a show this last weekend! We had a great time and we can't wait to come around again very very soon!
Much Love

Just an update if you have been following what has been going on with the band, shows, tours, releases, etc... Although the calendar is slowing down a bit, it is of no worry that we will not be playing as many shows as we have been over the last few months. We are actually going to be spending a bit of time writing a new album as a band and occasionally trying out the new material at a few shows along the way. We are also in the process of booking a grand tour this coming summer with as many festival dates as we can get our hands on. That being said, if you know of a particular event you think we would do well at, please let send us an email at Rocky.ottley@gmail.com. We would love to be sure to make it out to your part of the country.

As far as the DVD goes, there is still much editing to do, although I have seen some of it and it is going to be absolutely phenomenal. We will be releasing it alongisde with Oso Closo this January. Details to come on that soon.

For now, you should definitely check out the schedule and come out to a show before we put the brakes on for a couple months and try to develop a new side that nobody has seen yet.

In other words...

LETS PARTY!!!!!

Much Love
